Are Bluehost and HostGator the Same Company?

Bluehost and HostGator are not the same company. They are two different web hosting companies. However, they are owned by the same parent company, Endurance International Group (EIG).

About Endurance International Group (EIG)

Endurance International Group (EIG) is an IT service company that specializes in web hosting.

Their IT infrastructure is located in India but main headquarters are located in Burlington, Massachusetts.

EIG is a very large company, mainly from acquiring other smaller web hosting companies. They used free cash flow gained by investing in mergers and acquisitions and acquired many assets to gain access to capital markets.

EIG gathered small internet service providers into one large national internet service providers and scaled. They acquire companies domestically and internationally.

In 2015, it was reported that EIG has 4.2 million customers worldwide.

Who Owns Endurance International Group?

EIG was originally owned by a private equity firm called Accel-KKR. In 2011, it was bought by Warburg Pincus and GS Capital Partners, for around $975 million.

It went public in October 2013 raising $252 million selling shares to the public at $12 each.

About Bluehost

Matt Heaton was the original founder of Bluehost but it was later bought by EIG in 2010.

Bluehost is one of the largest web hosts with 2 million domains.

The main headquarters are located in Provo Utah, with more than 750 people located at the facility. This facility is 50,000 square feet (4,600 m2 ).

Bluehost Services

Bluehost offers services including shared hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated hosting and WooCommerce hosting. Their servers are powered by PHP 7, HTTP/2, and NGINX+ caching.

About HostGator

HostGator was founded by Brent Oxley in 2002. In 2006, the company moved it’s headquarters from Boca Raton, Florida to Houston, Texas.

On July 13, 2012, HostGator was sold to EIG for a price of $299.8 million.

HostGator Services

HostGator’s services include shared hosting, reseller, virtual private server, and dedicated web hosting with an additional presence in Austin, Texas.

Is Bluehost Better Than HostGator?

Bluehost and HostGator have similar services, pricing structures, and features but I’ll give the edge to Bluehost.
